WP 2: Collection of existing research data

11/03/2013 09:19:00

Objectives

In order to assess the status of seismic risk mitigation resources and indentify knowledge gaps in seismic risk reduction capacities, a collection of existing research data will be
carried out in WP2.

Description of work and role partners

Participants: NNU
To enable NNU to develop a comprehensive database of existing research data it will be necessary to first determine gaps in the centre’s current research data resources as well as identify those resources which relate to the new areas of research to be conducted by NNU as a result of this project. As such, a comprehensive status report will be compiled outlining the data resources currently accessible to NNU, including all relevant research conducted and published by NNU itself. This report will enable NNU to identify those areas of research in which it has insufficient data resources, thereby allowing it to compile a list of resources to be collected from local, regional and international sources.

Participants: NNU, EUCENTRE
Using the list of data resources to be collected and compiled during Task 2.1, NNU will proceed to accumulate these resources through direct and specific requests to local, regional and international research centres, government ministries, and other research
institutions, as well as through the development and maintenance of institutional
subscriptions to academic research journals. NNU will also cooperate with EUCENTRE in the sharing of respective research data and resources, enabling the development of the research data resources of both centres. A progress report will also be compiled to monitor NNU's acquisition of the specified resources.

Participants: NNU, EUCENTRE
Once all the necessary data resources have been collected, NNU will create a centralised and comprehensive database of all research data resources available to the centre, accessible by all NNU staff members. This database will operate as a central reference point for research data for members of NNU, and will be organised into three categories, based upon the three key components of risk mitigation, namely hazard assessment,
vulnerability assessment and capacity building.
