WP3 aims at increasing the role of NNU in the field of seismic risk mitigation in the national, regional and international panorama. Training modules and exchange of knowledge for NNU personnel, young students and practitioners will be fundamental ingredients for increasing the project visibility and improving the competitiveness of all partners. In addition, the reinforced research capacities of NNU will allow the organisation of effective training in local community on disaster risk reduction and emergency preparedness.
Description of work and role of partners:
Task 3.1 Training and direct mobility for NNU personnel
Short training courses for NNU researchers will be organised by EUCENTRE. The experience that EUCENTRE has gained in the field of seismic risk will be described to NNU researchers and the skills of the researchers of EUCENTRE for doing research at international level and being involved in international funding schemes will be exchanged.
In order to widen and reinforce direct links between the research teams of NNU and EUCENTRE, direct mobility of scientists and exchange of experts will be pursued with the aim of exchanging knowledge and ideas, and beginning new joint research projects. This will enhance the skills of NNU and EUCENTRE researchers leading to an international cooperation and support.
Task 3.2 Training modules for young students
Participants: IUSS, EUCENTRE, NNU
The training courses will be organised taking direct advantages of the long experience of IUSS running international level Doctoral and Master Programmes in Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology,
with (Erasmus Mundus – MEEES Programme, www.meees.org) and without (ROSE Programme,
www.roseschool.it) mobility. The formal agreement existing between IUSS and EUCENTRE will allow making use of several educational facilities (teleconferencing and remote teaching rooms, documentation centre specialised in Earthquake Engineering and so on). In particular, IUSS and EUCENTRE staff will support NNU personnel in the organisation of courses for their Masters programmes related to earthquake engineering, disaster risk reduction and disaster management. Furthermore, IUSS will support NNU launching mobility programme in the field of higher education. To achieve this, young students of NNU will be encouraged to join MSc programmes in Italy.
Task 3.3 Training for practitioners and the local community Participants:
A first set of training courses for practitioners will by organised by EUCENTRE. As one of the results of the training carried out in Task 3.1, a second set of courses for practitioners will be planned with NNU researchers directly involved as teachers. Therefore, NNU will be supported by the European partners in organising training courses for the personnel involved in the planning, construction, regulation and utilization of buildings and infrastructures in order to enhance their knowledge on the seismic risk mitigation. These courses will be organised following the pattern of the short courses traditionally organised at EUCENTRE on the main topics of interest in the field of earthquake engineering and seismology leading to the direct involvement of the
practitioners and improving their knowledge to be applied in the daily practice.
During each short-course, questionnaires will be distributed to participants asking for anonymous feedback on the course. This will provide a direct measure of the effectiveness of each planned short-course. In addition, NNU will provide training in the local community on disaster risk reduction and emergency preparedness. In particular, NNU personnel, with the support of EUCENTRE, will expand the way it shares its concerns with the public by making it more accessible via multimedia formats.
